United’s biggest problem hasn’t been in defence. De Gea is arguably the best goalkeeper in the league. While the ever-changing centre-half duo have done an admirable job. Carrick and/or Herrera sitting in front of the back four adds an extra layer of security. Mourinho’s problem is purely in attack. So many points have been dropped this season because United have lacked a cutting edge. They have the second best defence in the league, but the seventh most potent attack. 50 goals scored in 34 games. Liverpool for instance, have scored 71 in 35 matches. With Zlatan out injured, one of the major transfer targets this summer will surely be a striker. Today we’re asking two Red supporters if Lukaku to United is the solution.
Lukaku to United: Mourinho should make his signature a priority

24 goals and 6 assists in 34 Premier League games this season. Mourinho should make the Belgian a transfer priority. We need a lethal striker up front that will create and convert chances. Lukaku will be entering the final two years of his contract this summer. He has already given an indication that the time is right for a step up.
“You want to show who is best. But as a team you want to be the best. I want my team to be the best. I want my team to be the most attractive to play in the league. The big aim in football is to win as many titles as you can.”
There is a massive shortage of world class strikers out there. Lukaku is 23 and under the guidance of Mourinho, he could become a player as devastating as Drogba was for Chelsea. We can’t rely on Rashford to lead the line. He needs time to develop. The youngster has scored 5 goals in 29 league appearances. While Martial has 4 in 21 games. Lukaku has the pace and power to transform games, and after drawing 14 matches this season, it’s clear United need a proven goal scorer.
Lukaku to United: Mourinho should focus elsewhere
‘John R.’ writes..
The last thing United need right now is a player who bottles it in big games. Lukaku’s stats are impressive this season. However, nearly all of his goals have come at Goodison Park. He also struggles to score against the top sides. Chelsea being the most recent example. If we want to take a seat at the top table again, we need world class players. Lukaku isn’t cut from that cloth.
This is the first season Lukaku has scored over 20 goals in the Premier League. Everton have done brilliantly against mid and lower table opposition. Yet when the going gets tough, they capitulate. Lukaku has struggled to inspire them during difficult periods. Furthermore, his style of play is completely unsuited to United’s. We need to focus on pace. Zlatan’s injury might be a blessing in disguise if we can get a quick striker down the middle. My message to Mourinho would be: focus all your energy on signing Griezmann, and then create an attacking trio to cause havoc in opposition defences. Lukaku simply isn’t the right fit.
