The Brazilian midfielder, Paulinho, has declared his shock that his career at Barcelona has started so brightly. The ex-Spurs man has been in fine form. He has managed to secure a starting spot alongside illustrious teammates like Iniesta and Messi. Paulinho is not really sure what’s going on:
“I was over in China earning mega bucks. After not making the grade at Spurs, I was expecting to finish off my career in Asia which was not a bad outcome. Then I started banging in more goals over there than even my old mate, Robbie Keane in L.A. The standard was like the Bolivian Premier League so I wasn’t expecting anything to come up. My agent calls me one day and says Barca want to sign me. I said “are you having a laugh?”. It turns out it wasn’t a joke… this time”
Barcelona fans thought signing Paulinho was the final nail in their coffin but contrary to all expectations, the midfielder has gone on a scoring and assist run that is making Spurs fans wonder what the hell went wrong at White Hart Lane. Paulinho was instrumental in convincing Coutinho to push for a transfer now rather than wait until the summer:
“I just told Phil that if I can score goals nearly every week there, he should be banging in about 40 per season. Imagine playing Sunderland every week, mate. Even Madrid have turned in to Stoke City this season. It’s that easy”.
Paulinho holds no grudge against Spurs. “I was brutal in fairness. Some people said I didn’t get a chance but it just never happened for me. It’s funny that life is now easier for me at the biggest club in the world than it was at a side that will never reach the elite level of world football. Sure 4th place would be a minor miracle for them. So no, there’s no bad feeling from my side”.
