Following on from his emphatic performances for Liverpool this season, and his Player of the year award, we ask how Mo Salah blew Egypt’s presidential election and only finished second?
Disclaimer: this is actually true. Mo really did come second.
We can now reveal where it all went wrong for the likeable attacker.
1. His performance against Manchester United
lets face it, everyone expected more of the star than the paltry display he offered on the day. It was a key match against direct rivals for second. It really was a blip on an otherwise thrilling first season in the Premier League with Liverpool and a blemish voters at home obviously couldn’t look past.
2. Not actually running for President.
This was possibly his greatest mistake. As bothering to follow through with a campaign, showing up for debates, coming forth with considered opinions on the issues in today’s Egypt, all could really have made a difference to the final outcome.
3. He would have needed Sadio Mane and Roberto Firminho sitting beside him in office.
Because let’s face it, even though he’s played out of his skin for his country, all his best moments come with the magical trio and it would be fair to assume the same would be needed in making key decisions on the future of his electorate. The question is if Mane and Firminho would be willing.
4. At least Kevin De Bruyne came third.
Even if Pep thought he should have won despite ‘the numbers men’
