Nightmarish scenes in Liverpool this week as Roma fans descended on locals, not for the first time, resulting in a middle aged Irish fan left in a critical condition after an assault with s belt.
Fans from Roma have done this four, five, maybe as much as six times in the last few years. Threats of a European ban seem not to bother them. But what night bother them is this:
If your fans are found guilty by UEFA of violent behaviour, your team starts their next game one goal down.
What fan would do that to his team and to his players?
This would involve fans in what happens on the pitch by taking responsibility off it. You’d be jeopardising your teams progress in a huge way. A goal against your side is arguably the most painful thing a fan can witness.
But would it work?
What do you think?
