No Campaign: Babies capable of playing for Ireland at 12 weeks
In a last ditch attempt to sway voters on the referendum to repeal the 8th amendment in Ireland, The No campaign has published a poster encouraging Martin O’Neill to call up 12 week old unborn babies, claiming they can play as well as Aidan McGeady.
“I can kick, I can yawn, I can deliver a 25 yard cross onto Shane Long’s head” reads the controversial poster. It has immediately come under fire by the Yes campaign for presenting dubious facts voiced in a manner designed to confuse voters. But No campaigner Assumpta O’Flioghaigh-Caroll has leapt to the defence of the poster
“Of course we know it’s possible for a baby at 12 weeks to kick. And who are you to suggest a fetus wouldn’t be as effective on the wing as Aidan McGeady. All we are saying is that by voting Yes in this referendum you’ll definitely be depriving Ireland of thousands of world class superstars”
When the point was put to her that babies of 12 weeks can’t survive outside the womb, Ms. O’Floghaigh-Caroll claimed her poster was the victim of a concentrated media campaign to devalue the concept of football star fetuses and encourage people to not look at unborn babies as definite Ireland stars.
