Documents from Football Leaks claim that Borussia Dortmund Star Jandon Sancho’s agent was employed by Premier League champions Manchester City to mask a £200,000 payment. This payment was connected with Sancho’s transfer from Watford to Manchester City.
According to documents published by German magazine Der Spiegel, City paid £200,000 to Sancho’s agent Emeka Obasi to employ him as a scout in South and Central America.
Der Spiegel found an internal email sent by a member of Manchester City staff that allegedly mentions an agreement “in relation to Jadon and his agent Emeka”. another allegation is that the payment appeared in an internal Manchester City document under the heading ‘Agent Fee’.
Fifa and Premier League rules dictate that players under 16 are not allowed to be represented by agents. They are also not allowed to receive financial incentives.
In a week in which Chelsea have been very heavily punished for youth transfer activities, these allegations will come as a dangerous threat to the champions.
Manchester City released a statement in response to the allegations saying:
“We will not be providing any comment on out of context materials purportedly hacked or stolen from City Football Group and Manchester City personnel and associated people. The attempt to damage the Club’s reputation is organised and clear.”
