Summertime is set to be an incredibly busy time at the Bernebau as a number of star players are planning to leave the club. Real Madrid are in disarray after being dumped out of the Champions League by Ajax. Santiago Solari is expected to be let go in the summer or even before. The problem club President, Florentino Perez, has now is that players like Gareth Bale, Isco, and Luca Modric want to jump off the sinking ship.
Critics accused Real of being arrogant in their approach to the home match against Ajax. There was a perception that their 2-1 first leg win was enough to see them through, and simply turning up would be enough. Sergio Ramos, the club captain, even intentionally got a yellow card in the first leg in order to be suspended for the game. That would have allowed him to be play in the inevitable Real quarter-final.
It’s a sad state of affairs. The new manager will need to cure a toxic atmosphere in the dressing room, where big characters like Ramos have gained too much power. In the meantime, Bale, Isco, Modric and even players like Asensio, will move on to pastures new.
