Ireland and Liverpool fans are taking part in a massive online protest the last few days to save one of their own. They’re taking selfies of themselves with their tongue out to draw attention to the plight of Michael Litor, a fan in prison for the simple act of sticking his tongue out. Even Neymar is taking part.
Thirteen months ago Ireland and Liverpool fan, Litor was over in Turkey to watch the Turkey v Republic of Ireland game. Just three hours later he was in prison there. And he’s been there since. His crime? Sticking his tongue out at a local dignitary. The dignitary, who was under armed guard, was present in Antalya to watch the game, demanded he be arrested on the spot. And he was. And he’s been there since.
Attempts from Ireland’s foreign office to intervene have failed and Turkey’s judicial system refuses to recognise his existence. So fans are stepping in. People all over Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere are post selfies with their own tongues out and the hashtag #mikelitorisinnocent to bring attention to the case and help Litor see justice.
So far hundreds of thousands of fans of both Ireland and Liverpool, the club he supports, have been posting and the movement is set to continue until the Irishman is free.
Make a post today and show you want Michael free too!
